National security through information superiority. These are the words you’ll live and work by serving as an Information Warfare Officer in the Navy Reserve. Navy Information Warfare combines two related skills - cryptography and cryptanalysis. Cryptography is the field of disguising communications to protect them. Cryptanalysis is the art of deciphering the coded communications of others. Being a Navy Information Warfare Officer offers a rewarding career with a corps of Enlisted and Officer professionals. As an Information Warfare Officer, your duties can include:
- Deploying as part of a direct support team on board surface combatants, submarines, operational staffs, or joint task forces
- Deploying onboard specially configured aircraft conducting aerial reconnaissance in support of tactical, theater, and national missions
- Qualifying as an Operations Watch Officer, responsible for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of real-time signal intelligence
- Computer network operations
- Development and acquisition of cutting-edge exploitation and defense systems that directly support our core mission areas
Training
You’ll be trained in the Navy Reserve Security Group to operate and maintain specialized electronic equipment such as radio receivers, antennae, recorders, and computers. Annual Training assignments can be at Naval Security Group sites in the United States or overseas.
Basic Education Requirements
A bachelor’s or postgraduate degree from an accredited college in political science, foreign language, mathematics, economics, geography, electronics, physics, or history is required.
Special Requirements
You must successfully complete a special background investigation to be eligible to access classified information. Your immediate family members must also be U.S. citizens.
